Teeth Whitening

As we age our teeth naturally get darker. This is partly due to getting older but is also caused by lifestyle factors such as the amount of tea, coffee and red wine we drink, smoking and some medication.

Tooth whitening can be a highly effective way of lightening the natural colour of your teeth, without the need for any invasive treatment. It is possible to see long lasting results very quickly and the treatment is completely safe causing no damage to your teeth.

Please look at our gallery to see of the amazing results we have achieved. We are currently able to offer two different whitening treatments:

Nite White:

This is our at home teeth whitening product. Following your consultation the dentist will take impressions of your teeth, which will be used to create custom whitening trays.

The treatment will be customised so that it can best fit around your daily routine. You will be provided with whitening gel that is placed into the trays and worn at a time to suit you.

With many different strengths of gel available the dentist is able to tailor the treatment so that it will give the best possible effects whilst fitting in with your lifestyle. Nite White® uses patented ACP (Amorphous Calcium Phosphate) technology, which has been proven to smooth the surface of the teeth, giving a glossy finish as well as lightening the colour.

Pola Office:

This is our in surgery tooth whitening product. You will need to attend the surgery for a 45 minute appointment during which a peroxide gel will be applied to your teeth. This is then activated using a blue light. This treatment will provide instant whitening results.

The gel will be applied, activated and then washed off at least three times during the session.

In order to achieve the best possible results from your whitening you will need to follow up your surgery treatment with a course of at home whitening, which is included in the price.

dental examination which can also be referred to as a check-up, allows the dentist to perform a thorough inspection of your mouth, teeth and gums. This will enable them to identify any areas of early decay, acid erosion and gum disease.

By focusing on preventative dentistry any problems can be quickly identified and treated. This helps to reduce the cost and complexity of any treatment required and should enable you to keep your own teeth for as long as possible.

Using a small handheld mirror and probe the dentist will fully assess your mouth. They may also take x-rays to look at the roots of teeth and at any areas of decay.

Once a full examination has been completed the dentist will explain all the possible treatment options and provide you with a full treatment estimate for any work that needs to be completed.

A veneer is a very thin layer of porcelain that is constructed to fit over the surface of the tooth to improve the colour, shape and appearance. Due to the fact the veneer is attached to the tooth using a special adhesive very little, if any preparation is needed to fit them.

Here at Bucklersbury Dental Studio we are able to offer conservative approaches such as Prepless, No-Prep or DURAthin® veneers which require no preparation of the tooth underneath the veneer. This means that the process can be carried out without the need for anaesthetic and is totally reversible as no damage is done to the teeth underneath.

Once in place veneers should last for many years, but like your natural teeth they can chip and break.

If you are interested in seeing how you could benefit from veneers, book a consultation with our dentists who will be happy to discuss your options.

Smile Makeover

For any patient looking to completely update their smile we are able to offer a full smile makeover. The dentists are able to put together a full treatment plan including a number of the treatments detailed above to provide you with safe, pain free and predictable dentistry solutions.

Smile makeovers are often seen on programmes such as Channel Four’s 10 years younger and Extreme Makeover and can have a dramatic effect on the confidence and happiness of those who undergo treatment.

Cosmetic Bonding

Dental bonding is a procedure where a tooth coloured resin is applied to the teeth to improve the shape and close gaps between teeth. The resin is hardened with a special light, which will bond the material securely to the natural tooth.

By using cosmetic bonding it is possible to ensure that the minimum amount of tooth structure is removed. This helps to enhance the potential life of your teeth.

Gummy Smile

When you smile, do you feel the appearance of your upper teeth are overshadowed by showing excessive gum? Do you think your teeth look too short compared to the amount of gum displayed when you smile?

If you answered "yes" to either of these questions, you may have a condition that is commonly called a "gummy smile" or excessive gingival display.

When we smile, sometimes our lip raises up, showing the complete length of the tooth and a lot of gum.

There are several possible causes of gummy smile, including:

  • The muscle that controls the movement of your upper lip could be over active, causing your upper lip to rise up higher than normal. When this occurs, more of your gum tissue is exposed when you smile.

  • Too much gum on show due to abnormal eruption of the teeth. Teeth covered by excessive gum can appear short, even though they may actually be the right length.

  • The way that your upper jaw bone grew and developed could cause the appearance of a gummy smile. For example, if there was an excessive bulging of the top jaw bone under the gum, you would experience an obvious gummy appearance when you smile.

The smile line is the teeth that are showing when you are smiling. It is determined by several factors, including:

  • The shape and size of your lips.

  • Your facial muscles.

  • The shape and size of your teeth.

  • Your gum tissue.

The optimal smile line appearance should reveal the least amount of gum as possible.

However, depending on the factors causing a gummy smile, more serious dental conditions could be present. For example, if you have a gummy smile caused as a result of how the teeth grew and how the jaw developed, you may also have an uncomfortable or improper bite that could ultimately affect your long-term oral health.

A gummy smile can have a negative effect on self-esteem, and can even make some people not want to smile. The good news is that a gummy smile can be corrected through various treatment options.

Treatments depend on the cause of the gummy smile, which can range from mild to severe.

Treatments we offer include:

  • Botulinum toxin injections to relax the lip over the gum so when you speak, laugh and smile the muscle does not have the power to raise up very high. Thus correcting the appearance of too much gum on show.

  • Orthodontic treatment (braces) to move the teeth into a more functional position.

Porcelain Crowns

Advances in dentistry mean that severely broken-down teeth can now be restored with strong, natural-looking porcelain crowns. New Lava™ crowns are metal-free and will not suffer from the black lines one sees with traditional crowns. This is a great method for cracked teeth and can help re-strengthen a weak tooth.

Gum Lift

At Bucklersbury Dental Studio we are experienced to provide gum lift treatment for patients who are concerned about their gums showing up too much in their smiles, or when the gums do not recede after permanent teeth erupts. A gum lift is a dental procedure that is done to reshape the gums to provide a more pleasing smile.

Having a ‘gummy’ smile can cause a person to be very self-conscious about their appearance. It is simply a cosmetic procedure to improve the appearance and self-confidence. Gum lifts are normally only done on the front teeth as these are the ones that are most visible when a person smiles.

In the past, a gum lift was a painful dental procedure which involved cutting the gums, stitching it and weeks of recovery. It is now done with advanced lasers by experienced dentists and recovery after treatment is minimal. With the latest techniques in facial aesthetics, a small amount of anti wrinkle injections®could also solve this problem.

Our experienced cosmetic dentists will guide you on the best cause of treatment following a detailed assessment.
